Mediation

What is mediation?

Mediation is a negotiation process between parties with the goal of arriving at a resolution of their legal dispute. South Carolina law requires mediation in most civil and family court cases.   It is a process in which an unbiased, neutral third-party mediator assists the parties in reaching an agreement resolving their legal dispute. The mediator does not act as a judge, or decide the dispute, but rather helps the parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Any settlement agreement the parties reach is voluntary. If the parties involved do not reach an agreement, they lose none of their rights to proceed to court.
